About Us

Founded in 2016, Philadelphia Contemporary connects the people and places of Philadelphia through art and partnership.

Philadelphia Contemporary was founded in 2016 by Harry Philbrick, an experienced museum
director, with a mission to connect the people and places of Philadelphia through art and partnership.

Re-imagining the 21st century arts organization, PC has presented forward-thinking, world-class
contemporary visual and performance art all over the city, harnessing the energy of local and
international artists to bring a broad cross section of Philadelphians together in the city’s singular
heritage spaces. PC’s foundational goal was to create an art organization whose audience reflected
the diversity of Philadelphia.

Working in partnership with other community and arts organizations, over the last eight years PC has
presented site-specific dance performances, spoken word and musical mashups, immersive painting
installations, festivals and block parties, billboard poetry, and sculptural installations in wildly different
spaces and places across Philadelphia.

PC will wrap up its active programming in 2024.

What good do we do and for whom?

We connect the people and places of Philadelphia through art and partnership.

What impact do we seek?

To be a valued partner with the people of Philadelphia, creating shared arts experiences that strengthen our individual and community bonds.

Art

We embrace the breadth of what art can be and relish the freedom to experiment and adapt.

Equity

We address systemic injustices through creative expression and work in partnership to share and redistribute power, agency, and resources.

Belonging

We embrace the full spectrum of humanity, cultivate an environment where everyone belongs, and embody diversity in our staff, board, artists, partners, and audiences.

Environment

We care for our communities and the environment, understanding that everything we do has a profound impact on the planet and each other.
