Communications Coordinator

About the Position
Philadelphia Contemporary is seeking a Communications Coordinator to support, write, organize, and administer Philadelphia Contemporary’s communications needs — website, newsletter, social media, marketing materials, and press.

Job Duties
In short: Build and implement comprehensive communication and marketing strategies for getting the word out about Philadelphia Contemporary’s projects and fundraising campaigns, involving social media, press, and advertising. Coordinate closely with Philadelphia Contemporary’s graphic designer to create visual marketing needs (such as print or digital posters, graphics, and images). Prepare copy to be used in Philadelphia Contemporary’s publicity materials, including press releases, social media posts, marketing material, monthly newsletters, and website.

— Website: create and maintain text for Philadelphia Contemporary’s website—the primary interface to its local and international community as an arts organization without a physical space. Coordinate with designer to ensure the website is up to date and is strategically used as a platform for effective advocacy and amplification of Philadelphia Contemporary’s projects.

— Social Media: Generate original written content for Philadelphia Contemporary’s social media platforms, working with designers to coordinate and create any necessary visuals. Actively engage and build Philadelphia Contemporary’s social media audiences. Proactively engage with followers.

— Email Communications: Coordinate and compose content for monthly newsletters from draft to send, working with designers for formatting, including managing the ‘Monthly Faves’ section and building the newsletter as a fun and dynamic space for disseminating community and partner events and information, including those outside of Philadelphia Contemporary’s projects.

— Press: Assist with PR/media relations efforts, including copy writing. Coordinate press and media materials, contact lists and press archive. Respond to requests for information and images and coordinate interviews for press and Philadelphia Contemporary leadership as appropriate.

— Archives + Documentation: Help manage photo and video archives.

— Cultivate community across all communication channels

— Experience in the non-profit, alternative artist space, artist-run field

— Knowledge and familiarity with the artist organization field, organizations, research and arts organizing ecosystem

— Thoughtful and excellent written and verbal communicator

— Capacity for writing, copy editing and review

— Design and visual sensibility

— Computer and digital literacy and strong working skills in Google Drive, social media platforms

— Significant commitment to the field

— Reliable, responsible, highly organized, detail-oriented

— Independent self-starter who is flexible, inventive and takes initiative

— Willing to do both practical coordination as well as be a participant in visioning and leadership

Job Specifications
— This position is based in Philadelphia, PA

— This is a 20 hour per week part-time position

— Salary range: based on qualifications and experience.

— Must be willing to attend Philadelphia Contemporary’s events, when they occasionally occur.

— Employee must provide their own computer.
